This story came about when I discovered those "I Saw You" Missed Connections adverts on gumtree and other sites and newspapers. Something fascinated me about the mindset that (admittedly horrifically close to my own) means they won't speak to someone they fancy in the street but will put a message on the internet in the hope that this person would be the type of soul to not only check such adverts but also on the same website as them.
From this came Ethel, a girl so obsessed with being noticed by strangers that she would decorate herself oddly just so they could be sure to write accurately about her.
In 2008 it was nominated for Best Show in the Chortle Awards, which was won by Stewart Lee, so mustn't grumble.
